21st Bat Presentation

Today I did a bat presentation for a class at my little sisters school. It went pretty good, I think if I would have practiced more it would have been better though. When we got to the school we stayed in the lunch room and waited until 8:25. Then we went down the hallway and stayed by the door. While we were there we had a couple teachers talk to us about what we were doing. They seemed so intrested in what we were doing we told them to get a teacher to want a presentation and then let us know and we would come in and do a presentation. I think even when I graduate I am going to be asked to come back and give presentations.

When it was time to present Sage the little brown bat (Faith) and Nugmeg the big brown bat (Tara,me) were introduced. We came into the room and set the stuff we brought down. There were 24 kids in the class and 3 adults.....not counting Mom, Faith, and I. I had note cards so I could go in a certain order, but that didn't happen. I mixed them all up. I forgot to mention I needed a table so I got to work out of the bin I brought and a stool.

I don't remember what I started with but I told about the size, life span, food, predators, my rescues, rabies shots, myths, echolocation, bat houses, and we also had a bat rap. When we finished talking about bats Mom came to the front and she helped me answer the questions the kids and teachers had while we had a couple bat rescue videos get shown. When that was over Mom told the class that this is my 21st presentation and that we have never done this before but we want to give something to the class. Mom said, "If you will be a friend to a bat we want to give you a friendship bracelet." Everyone in the class got a friendship bracelet for saying they will be a friend to a bat. Even the teachers got one.

When we were leaving the class got a paper that said to tell what you learned about a bat today. I would really like to know what they all learned. I am hoping the teacher lets me see what they say after she gets them back. When we left the room there was an assistant teacher in the hallway. We talked to her about bats a little bit and told her to get a teacher to want a presentation and then go into the room and watch. We also told her how my mentors always do a bat open house every year around Halloween. We have to remind her for next year. I also think that I might be taking another day off of school to do a few bat presentations for classes at that school. And if not for a few classes I would probably be doing something for all the classes so it would be the school.

I wonder who would want to help with the rap or just help set stuff up and take stuff down. Oh if I had time I could even do a bat craft for the classes so they can take that home to there families. I really want to find something quick to do now for my next presentations.

If anyone finds any quick crafts or even worksheets the kids can do please post the link in a comment so I can go look at it and see how I can fit it into a presentation. I am so excited and cant wait until my next presentation.
